The College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur in association with the Kerala Library Association, Trivandrum is organising a Seminar on "Library and Web tools for E-Learning and Teaching  Role of Librarians in Internet Era, E-Learning and Teaching, Digital Document Delivery etc".

Date & Time:  25-06-2012 (Monday), 9am-5pm.

Location: College of Horticulture is situated in the Main Campus of the Kerala Agricultural University which is 10 km away from Thrissur city on the NH 47 linking Thrissur, Palakkad and Coimbatore.

Paper Submission: Full Papers not more than 5 A4 size pages, Short Papers or Posters to the Seminar should be submitted on or before 15-06-2012.? Acceptance of the papers will be intimated before 17-06-2012.

One Day Training Programme on "Digital Content Copyright: Challenges to Libraries"

Objectives of the One Day Training Programme

Historically, libraries assume a major role in the process of informationdissemination. They always tried to balance the promotion of access toinformation and the interests of the publishers and authors. This is upset with the advent of new technologies. The challenges to be addressed by the libraries in the near future centers around digitization of copyright contents, which permits multiple use and reduces copyright owners’ control over works. Technological Protection Measures (TPM) and restriction on permitted uses are some of the modes used to overcome this. However, these measures jeopardize the freedom of libraries to facilitate access to information, which is the main objective of copyright protection. This awareness programme attempts to shed light on the challenges posed by the Indian Copyright Act on the functions of libraries.

• The Role of Libraries in Information Dissemination under the Indian Copyright Act
• Technological Protection Measures and its impact on Libraries Target Audience

Targeted Audience

The training programme is essentially targeted to the Library professionals and LIS students. Individuals concerned with copyright laws related to libraries and information centres would also benefit from the programme.
