KLA/C-DAC Workshop on Information Security Awareness, 1 Dec.2012, Thiruvananthapuram

Kerala Library Association (KLA) in collaboration with the Centre for Development for Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Hyderabad is organizing a Half  Day Workshop on “Information Security Awareness” on 1st December 2012 in Thiruvananthapuram.

Objectives:

To give awareness about the common online information security issues.
To equip the participants with tools and techniques to tackle different information security issues.

Who should participate:
The Workshop is primarily intended for Library and Information Science Professionals, Researchers and LIS Students. Maximum intake is 40 on a first come first served basis.

KLA-NIC National Workshop on E-Granthalaya, 11-13 September 2012, Thiruvananthapuram

Kerala Library Association (KLA) in collaboration with National Informatics Centre (NIC), New Delhi is organizing a Three Day National Workshop on “E-Granthalaya”, an Integrated Library Management Software for Automation and Networking, during 11-13 September 2012 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

5-Day International Workshop on Digital Libraries using Greenstone at IIMK During 20-24 August 2012

IIM Kozhikode, as apart of its Faculty Development Programme (FDP), is organizing a 5-day International Workshop on Digital Libraries using Greenstone Software at IIM Kozhikode during 20-24 August 2012.

Workshop Content :


The Workshop has been designed to facilitate the participants in creating state-of-art digital libraries using Greenstone (latest version), which include software installation, configuration, customization, digitization and other related workflow operations, content development and management, designing and creating standard metadata sets to describe digital objects and encoding it in standard markup formats.

PEDAGOGY:

The workshop will be conducted at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) which is equipped with world-class lecture rooms and computing laboratories with high speed Internet link. Each participant will be provided a PC supplemented with LCD projected live demos. The pedagogy will be a mix of lectures, discussions, case studies and hands-on sessions. Each participant shall be provided with a CD-ROM comprising of the Greenstone Software, faculty presentations, and other related software packages. Extensive hands-on labs will be a hall mark of this programme.

Workshop Effect :

At the end of the workshop, the participants are expected to be well-versed and confident of developing state-of-art and world class digital libraries using the Greenstone software. In particular, they will have learned the following:
  • Install/uninstall/reinstall and configure the Greenstone software and its associated softwares such as Java Runtime Environment (JRE), Ghostscript, and Image Magick;
  • Major DL development activities such as collection building (multimedia - text, images, audio and video), workflow operations, content management, and backup/restore;
  • Greenstone Librarian Interface (GLI) and its various utility panels such as the 'Gather', 'Enrich', 'Design', 'Create' and the 'Format';
  • Designing and creating standard metadata sets and editing them as required;
  • Greenstone collection configuration, customization and administration.

The workshop will be of immense benefit to all those involved in developing and maintaining digital collections such as LIS faculty, librarians and information professionals, IT faculty and software professionals and belonging to the academia, Government and the NGOs in India and those from other Asian countries.

Participants are expected to have a thorough working knowledge of the Windows operating environment (XP, 2000X Server etc.), and must be aware of the popular digital file formats. Knowledge of Windows file management system, DOS commands, graphics/images creation and HTML programming will be added advantages.

For AICTE recognised Organisations : Rs. 11500 + Service Tax 12.36%

Other Organisations : Rs. 19500 + Service Tax 12.36%


International Participants : USD 400 



The fee is to be paid in advance by Demand Draft drawn in favour of "Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode" payable at "Kozhikode" (or Calicut). The fee covers, in addition to lodging, course materials, working lunch, and breakfast and dinner for residential participants.

Payments to IIMK are exempted from deduction of Tax from source vide letter No. AAAAJ1012Q/ACIT/Cir-2(1)06-07 dated 12 April, 2007 issued by Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Circle-2(1), Kozhikode. So, you are requested not to deduct tax from our payments.

CANCELLATION POLICY :

In the event of cancellation of nomination, full refund of the program fee will be made, if request is received in writing at least 15 days before commencement of the program. No refund will be made if such a request comes after this date. However, the amount can be adjusted against nominations in future programs

National Workshop on Preparation of Scholarly Articles- Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod

Dates: first/second week of September, 2012.  



The workshop will be a type of camp in which participants will be trained in writing scholarly articles.  Each participant will generate at least one article for publication in the workshop.  The faculty leader will help them in selecting the topic and fine tuning the article.

Intake: Maximum number of participants will be 24 (6 each from 4 subjects)

The College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur in association with the Kerala Library Association, Trivandrum is organising a Seminar on "Library and Web tools for E-Learning and Teaching  Role of Librarians in Internet Era, E-Learning and Teaching, Digital Document Delivery etc".
