School Libraries are the heart of the educational system. They play a pivotal role in nurturing knowledge and improving the quality of education. They not only help to inculcate the habit of reading but also a thirst for new knowledge. The advent of ICT has opened the doors of possibilities. Now the role of School Libraries has changed from mere information transfer to content generation. The School Libraries are becoming Information Clearing Houses and as such they will constantly change and adjust their role as catalysts in the Information Society.

Digital Sources of Information
Reading is usually associated with print materials which still commands significance, but many of the same materials can be read online through the internet. Digital resources comprise mainly E-journals, E-books, Online databases, Blogs, etc. The Internet, the medium that allows to access the information playground that is the World Wide Web, has provided a whole new medium for information exchange. Initiatives such as free softwares and open source initiatives have boosted the free use and availability of information. Digital Libraries are also gaining importance and enriching the world of information. The workshop aims to impart library organisation, management skills and awareness of the digital information sources.

Target Audience -School Librarians and Teachers in charge of libraries
Registration Fee : Rs.500/- (including working lunch and tea)
Maximum participants : 30
Admission: First come first serve
The programme is being conducted as part of library extension services. The world is rapidly entering an era of technological revolution where information technology forms an integral part of social change. School Library acts as a bridge between school and Society, bringing increased knowledge in order to provide challenges to the inquiring mind of young people. School Librarians must have opportunities to keep up to date with the technological changes. We intend through this workshop, to make the School Librarians equipped with information handling skills in this new era.
